H4O and Haiti

What’s the saying? “Ask and you will receive?” God sure doesn’t do things halfway.

I’m very happy with how my team has responded to the earthquake in Haiti. I was cruising along Twitter when I noticed “Haiti” was a trending topic. Before I even figured how I would go about contacting my buddies, I found we’d had a game plan lined up. Funding a water system to send to Haiti. Not bad. The next thing came as a bit of a shock to me. We were practically invited to hold a fundraiser at the local showgrounds (kind of a big deal in Santa Barbara). We’re hoping to have media coverage and everything! As the social media guy of the group (you’re probably talking to me when you mention@hands4others), I’ve been trying to tweet up a storm and get our video out there.

I’m glad to see us moving away from being a fledgling nonprofit to a real force in the world. More importantly, I can’t wait to see this grow beyond me and the families here; H4O chapters forming all over the nation is what I’m dreaming.

I hope you all have been well, and I would encourage you to do whatever you can to help not only those in Haiti, but anyone you might see who has a need. A little smile to the right person can go a long way.

End of 2009

Hey people. It’s been too long since I gave y’all anything to read about!!! And I really do miss this gig. It’s fun. So what’s new with me? I just finished up with my first semester of college (I’m a big kid now, you see). It’s a much different vibe than high school. You younger people are gonna enjoy it.

So, in my absence, it seems the end of the year sneaked up on me. Gotta watch that! Anyway, the end of a year means the start of a new one, and new years generally entail resolutions. I’ve been thinking a lot about my involvement withHands4Others lately. Just a few weeks ago, we gave some presentations at my church, and by the grace of God, we raised about $64,000. I’m no expert in math or anything, but that’s about 7 villages who get clean water to drink. Just because some church people were generous with money.

Afterward, people came up to me and told me what a great thing I was doing. That almost doesn’t seem fair to me. On my own strength and volition, I probably couldn’t have gotten $100, let alone fund a single village. That’s why I’m so glad God is infinitely more powerful than I am; I can’t do much. It’s really exciting to see what He does, though. What’s more is the fun doesn’t stop here. H4O still has a few hundred villages to go before we hit our goal. So what’s my resolution? I can’t say I have one in particular, but I have a bit of an idea of what I want to do. First, I’m gonna pray for H4O. I know God will lead me to do things of which I wouldn’t have thought otherwise. I just have to be paying attention. When that spiritual connection is made, it’s on! As for the rest… let’s see what happens.

I look forward to seeing you peeps soon. Happy 2010.
